2025 Breeders' Cup: Wagering options aplenty

The Breeders' Cup Friday card at Del Mar begins with a 11:35 a.m. Pacific first post time. Saturday's races will begin at 10:05 a.m. Pacific.

Bettors targeting the Breeders’ Cup cards at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Southern California on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 will once again have a surfeit of wagering options over the two days, with rolling doubles, pick threes, pick fours, pick fives, and pick sixes offered throughout the cards.

While regular doubles and pick three bets will be available for every race, Breeders’ Cup will also offer four doubles linking non-consecutive races, including three linking races on Friday and Saturday; an all-turf pick three on Friday; an all-turf pick fouron Saturday; and an all-dirt pick four on Saturday. Pick four, pick five, and pick six bets will be scattered throughout both cards.

The Breeders’ Cup Saturday card, which includes 12 total races, will begin at 10:05 a.m. local time in California (1:05 p.m. Eastern). The first of nine Breeders’ Cup races that day, the Filly and Mare Sprint, will have a post time of noon Pacific, with the final race of the card, the Filly and Mare Turf, scheduled to go off at 5:25 p.m. Pacific (8:25 p.m. Eastern).

Due to television scheduling constraints, the richest race on the card, the Breeders’ Cup Classic will be race 9, with a post time of 3:25 p.m. Pacific. The Classic will be the sixth of the nine Breeders’ Cup races run on Saturday.

For the Saturday card, an all-dirt pick 4 will begin with the Filly and Mare Sprint and go on to include the Sprint, Distaff, and Classic. An all-turf pick four will start with the Turf Sprint at 12:41 p.m. Pacific and go on to the include the Turf, Mile, and Filly and Mare Turf.

An early pick five on Saturday will start with the first race, incorporating three non-Breeders’ Cup overnight stakes, the Filly and Mare Sprint, and the Turf Sprint. A second pick five will begin with the Sprint and include the Distaff, Turf, Classic, and Mile. The late pick five will begin with the Turf and include the Classic, Mile, Dirt Mile, and Filly and Mare Turf.

All pick three, pick four, and pick five bets will have a 50-cent minimum.

The Friday card will include 10 races starting at 11:35 a.m. local time. The first of five Breeders’ Cup races on the card, the Juvenile Turf Sprint, will have a post time of 2:45 p.m. Pacific, followed by the Juvenile Fillies (3:25), Juvenile Fillies Turf (4:05), Juvenile (4:45), and Juvenile Turf (5:25).

Both the Friday card and the Saturday card will have one pick six each, with a minimum of $1. The Friday pick six begins with the Golden State Juvenile Stakes, and will go on to include all five of the Breeders’ Cup races for juveniles that are scheduled for the card. Any carryover will be applied to the Saturday pick six, which begins with the Distaff and includes the Turf, Classic, Mile, Dirt Mile, and Filly and Mare Turf.

There is an array of carryover possibilities for the pick five and pick six pools.

* The Friday pick six will carry over to the Saturday pick six if no one selects six winners. The Saturday pick six has a mandatory payout.

* Any carryover from a pick five on Friday will carry over to the late pick five on Saturday. In addition, the early pick five on Saturday will carry over to the late pick five on Saturday.

* The middle pick five on Saturday will have a mandatory payout.

The all-turf pick three on Friday, which includes the Juvenile Turf Sprint, the Juvenile Fillies Turf, and the Juvenile Turf, will have a $3 minimum.

The four special doubles will link the Friday Juvenile with the Saturday Classic; the Friday Juvenile Turf with the Saturday Turf; the Friday Juvenile Fillies with the Distaff; and the Saturday Distaff with the Saturday Classic.

All races on both days will have win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, superfecta, and super high-five pools. All super high-five pools will carry over to the next race, with the final super high-five on Saturday having a mandatory payout. The minimum superfecta bet will be 10 cents.
