The sprint filly Cy Fair struck her targets all summer and fall, with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint securing her spot as an Eclipse Award finalist.

Cy Fair, bred in Kentucky by Marc Keller, is a daughter of Taylor Made Farm kingpin Not This Time, who had a career year, and out of the winning Arch mare Remarqued. She was consigned to the 2024 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training by Niall Brennan and was purchased for $185,000 by Reagan Swinbank’s Swinbank Stables. Joining the partnership to race her throughout the year were Medallion Racing, a racing partnership arm of Taylor Made; Joey Platts; and Mark Stanton.

Cy Fair was turned over to trainer George Weaver, and about three months after emerging from the 2-year-old sale, she won her debut on July 10 at Saratoga, dominating fellow maiden fillies by 3 1/4 lengths. The following month, she made her stakes debut in the Bolton Landing at Saratoga and was edged a neck by Snow Face Princess.

Cy Fair bounced back to win the Algonquin Stakes against males on Oct. 5 at Woodbine, rallying from last of six to win by 3 1/4 lengths. That earned her a spot in the big field of 12 lining up for the Juvenile Turf Sprint, also against males, on Oct. 31 at Del Mar.

Cy Fair, with Irad Ortiz Jr. in the irons, chased a strong pace between horses and coming into the stretch, she was breathing down the throatlatch of pacesetter Schwarzenegger. As that colt gave way, Cy Fair still had more to give, clearing in the final sixteenth to win by a length. She became the second filly to win the Juvenile Turf Sprint, which was added to the Breeders’ Cup program in 2018, joining 2021 winner Twilight Gleaming. She also became the first Breeders’ Cup winner for Weaver.

“I can’t describe it,” Weaver said post-race. “It’s why we all get in the game. It’s hard to win these big races like this, and it’s my first Breeders’ Cup. We’ve had a great year, and I’m thankful to my staff, thankful to all the clients that supported me. We’ve got some nice horses, and she’s one of the top ones. She’s been a bullet all year long. Frankly, I don’t know how she got beat the second time we ran her in a stake. But she looked fantastic at Woodbine, like a super, special horse. She came over here and did it against the best in the world. We’re thrilled.”

Following the Breeders’ Cup, Weaver felt it was good timing to give Cy Fair, who had been going non-stop since the sale in April, a freshening, noting a lack of major turf sprint races for her division in early 2026. The filly was expected to begin gearing up following the turn of the year for a campaign that could include both domestic and international competition.
