Ag Bullet, second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint against males at Del Mar last month, is going on vacation this week with an undetermined future.
Trainer Richard Baltas said on Sunday that the 5-year-old mare may be retired to be bred or could race next year. A decision is expected in the coming months.
A winner of 8 of 17 starts, including seven stakes, Ag Bullet was third in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at a mile on turf for fillies and mares at Del Mar on Nov. 30. Baltas said she will be sent to a farm in central California while he confers with owners Calvin Nguyen and Joey Tran about plans.
One option is for Ag Bullet to race in 2026, with the goal of starting in the Grade 2 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Sprint in late summer. Ag Bullet won that race in 2024 when it was worth $1.5 million and on Aug. 30 when it was worth $2 million.
“We’re trying to decide whether to breed her or bring her back for one more year,” Baltas said. “They’ve got that $2 million race at Kentucky Downs.”
Ag Bullet has earned $2,977,228. She was offered at the Fasig Tipton November Sale last month but was listed as bought back for $2.9 million. This past June, Ag Bullet beat males in the Grade 1 Japiur Stakes at six furlongs at Saratoga.
