Amoss, Del-Cid keep it rolling as Oscar's Hope scores in Jean Lafitte

Oscar’s Hope gave trainer Tom Amoss and jockey Vicente Del-Cid a sweep of the week’s stakes at Delta Downs on Wednesday afternoon, when he darted to a 2 3/4-length win in the $100,000 Jean Lafitte. Randemonium finished second, 1 1/4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Wayne’s Law.

Amoss and Del-Cid on Tuesday won the $100,000 My Trusty Cat for 2-year-old fillies with Actis.

Oscar’s Hope ($2.60) moved to the lead after the start and in the Jean Lafitte, which was for 2-year-olds at 7 1/2 furlongs. He put up fractions of 23.56 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.91 for the half-mile and 1:13.79 for six furlongs. He went on to cover the two-turn distance on a fast track in 1:32.83.

Oscar’s Hope is a son of Twirling Candy who was making his first start beyond six furlongs in the Jean Lafitte. Earlier this season, he won a maiden special weight sprint at Saratoga and a first-level allowance sprint at Churchill Downs.

Oscar’s Hope races for Michael McLoughlin. He has now won 3 of 5 starts and earned $231,684.

The Jean Lafitte was the feature on a card in which there was a reduced takeout of 10 percent on all wagers. The reduced takeout will be offered on four more cards this meet, on Dec. 22-23 and Dec. 29-30.  

Delta will be dark on Thursday in observance of Thanksgiving. Racing will resume on Saturday.
