Anderson hopes Glengloria is like her big brother

Glengarry is being pointed toward the $100,000 Dan Johnson.

Some little sisters follow in the footsteps of their big brothers, and Aaron Kennedy and trainer Doug Anderson hope that will be the case with Glengloria.

The full sibling to five-time stakes winner Glengarry runs in Friday night’s $100,000 Prairie Meadows Debutante for 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs. She’s part of a competitive field of 10 that includes maiden winners from Canterbury Park, Colonial Downs, Evangeline Downs, Horseshoe Indianapolis, and Lone Star Park.

Glengloria won at home at Prairie Meadows last out, accounting for a maiden special weight for Iowa-breds by 2 1/2 lengths on July 12. One start prior, she was third against males when debuting June 14.

“She improved a little bit over her first out,” Anderson said. “She’s trained really good. She came back and worked a really decent half-mile for us and we kind of expect her to move forward a little bit more.”

Glengloria worked four furlongs in 46.40 seconds on Aug. 3. The move was the second fastest of 25 at the distance that morning, and the speed Glengloria showed was not a surprise. In her maiden win, she broke on top and led throughout. Glengloria figures to again be prominent after breaking from post 9.

“I think she’s going to be a filly more like Glengarry himself,” Anderson said of the front-running style employed by big brother.

Glengloria and Glengarry, a 4-year-old who has earned nearly $700,000 for a partnership that includes Kennedy and Anderson, are both by Maximus Mischief and out of the mare L. A. Way. Tyler Bacon has the mount on Glengloria.

“She’s done everything right for us, so we’re going to see what happens and hope for the best,” said Anderson.

Summer Winner defeated Minnesota-bred colts and geldings last out at Canterbury Park, and the Beyer Speed Figure of 62 she earned is the best career number in the Debutante. Alonso Quinonez has the mount for trainer Tim Dixon.

As for Glengarry, he’s being pointed toward the $100,000 Dan Johnson on the Iowa Classics Night card Sept. 27, according to Anderson. The six-furlong race is for Iowa-breds age 3 and up.

Glengarry has won his last three starts, including the Iowa Sprint. He is coming off a five-length victory in an Aug. 4 allowance in which he covered six furlongs in a blazing 1:07.47.

“The race here the last weekend, that’s where we’re kind of planning on running him,” Anderson said. “And then we’ll maybe see what there is at either at Churchill Downs or Keeneland this fall. We’ll see if we can’t find something there.”

Glengarry is a past winner of the Lafayette at Keeneland. Overall, he is 7 for 13.
