The Arkansas Racetrack Chaplaincy will auction off a halter regularly worn by Thorpedo Anna, the 2024 Horse of the Year, during its annual banquet on Thursday night, March 20, Chaplain Robi Heffington said. It will be showcased in a shadow box frame and is part of a package deal with a framed Kentucky Oaks picture signed by trainer Kenny McPeek and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr.
The item is one of about 15 for a live auction. There also will be a silent auction.
The banquet, which is a popular social gathering each season, will be held at the Oaklawn Event Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Central. There will be live music and tickets are $100.
Heffington said other live auction items include an infield tent for Arkansas Derby Day; an artistic, signed cane from Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas featuring some of his Grade 1 winners; an original Mystik Dan painting by award-winning artist Renee Torbit; a saddle towel quilt; a private dinner for a party of six; and a two-night hotel stay donated by Oaklawn.
Additional live auction items include two framed, numbered Fred Stone prints – one of Rags to Riches winning the Belmont Stakes and the other of Charlie Whittingham and Bill Shoemaker. They were donated by Jody Piper.
