Australia: Streaking Treasurethe Moment leads field in Vinery Stud Stakes

Three days later than expected, the brilliant Southern Hemisphere 3-year-old filly Treasurethe Moment will be a solid favorite to win her fifth consecutive stakes and seventh straight race of any kind in Monday’s Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Australia.

The $473,100 Vinery Stud Stakes at 1 1/4 miles, and another Group 1 at 1 1/4 miles, the $946,200 Tancred Stakes, were postponed from the weekend because of excessive rain in the Sydney area.

A winner of 7 of 9 career starts, Treasurethe Moment was 3-5 in early betting on Sunday for the Vinery Stud Stakes. She was the easy winner of the Group 2 Kewney Stakes at a mile by 2 1/4 lengths at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on March 8. Treasurethe Moment was not urged in the final strides by Damian Lane, who has the mount in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Trained by Matt Laurie, Treasurethe Moment has proven form at longer distances. In a five-day span at Flemington last year, Treasurethe Moment won the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on Nov. 2, and the Group 1 VRC Oaks at 1 9/16 miles on Nov. 5.

In those wins, she closed from a stalking position to win by 1 3/4 lengths and 1 1/4 lengths.

In the Vinery Stud Stakes, Treasurethe Moment starts from post 5 in a field of nine. The lightly raced Movin Out, a winner of only a maiden race in four starts, was the 6-1 second choice in early betting. She was third in the Group 1 New Zealand Guineas at a mile in November, and fourth in her 2025 debut, and first start in Australia, in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes at 7 1/2 furlongs against 3-year-old males at Rosehill Gardens on March 15.

The Vinery Stud Stakes is the longest start in the brief career of Movin Out, who tends to run from off the pace.

The Tancred Stakes has a strong European influence with Dubai Honour and Vauban leading the betting in a field of 14.

Dubai Honour, a 7-year-old Irish-bred gelding, won consecutive Group 1 races at 1 1/4 miles at tracks in Sydney in March and April 2023, his most recent starts in Australia. Trained in Britain by William Haggas, Dubai Honour has not raced since a second in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase at 1 1/2 miles at Sha Tin in Hong Kong in December.

Dubai Honour was 5-2 as of Sunday, a slight choice over Vauban at 3-1.

Vauban, a 7-year-old French-bred gelding, has had a remarkable career that includes a win in the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at 2 1/8 miles at Cheltenham Racecourse in Britain in March 2022, and a win at Royal Ascot in the Copper Horse Handicap at 1 3/4 miles in 2023.

Vauban was 14th as the 9-2 favorite in the 2023 Melbourne Cup, and 11th last year. He has since been transferred from Irish trainer Willie Mullins to the premier Australian team of Adrian Bott and Gai Waterhouse.

In his lone start this year, Vauban won his debut for Bott-Waterhouse in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes at 1 1/4 miles at Rosehill Gardens on March 8.

The Rosehill Gardens program begins at 9:35 p.m. Eastern or 6:35 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
