Australia: Warwoven, Ninja favored in Magic Millions races

The undefeated colt Warwoven and the three-time winner Ninja will be the favorites to win two of the three seven-figure sale progeny races on the Magic Millions program at Gold Coast Racecourse south of Brisbane, Australia, early Saturday.

Warwoven, a winner at five and six furlongs in two starts since Dec. 20, leads a field of 16 in the $2.01 million Magic Millions 2-Year-Old Classic at six furlongs. By the Snitzel stallion Sword of State, Warwoven drew post 6 and will be a factor as a stalker for jockey Rachel King.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, Warwoven was 4-5 in early betting on Thursday. Warwoven was purchased for approximately $247,000 as a yearling.

The only other runner in the 2-Year-Old Classic who's unbeaten in two starts is the well-regarded Zip Lock, a stalker who starts from post 3. Zip Lock won the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths at six furlongs at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Dec. 27.

Starting from the outside in a field of 17, Ninja does not have a favorable post in the $2.1 million Magic Millions 3-Year-Old Guineas at seven furlongs. A winner of 3 of 5 starts, Ninja has won from the front and back of the field, a versatile style that should work to his benefit on Saturday.

Ninja won the Group 3 Magic Millions Rogue Plate by 4 3/4 lengths at 6 1/2 furlongs at Eagle Farm on Jan. 3 in his group stakes debut.

Icarian Dream, one of eight fillies in the 3-Year-Old Guineas field, can be a factor from off the pace. Icarian Dream finished third by slightly less than two lengths in the Gold Edition Stakes at six furlongs at Eagle Farm on Dec. 20. She won the 2024 McLachlan Stakes.

Magic Millions Cup

The $1.34 million Magic Millions Cup at seven furlongs is a more competitive betting race.

Yellow Brick, unplaced in two Group 1 races in October, was the 7-2 favorite on Thursday to win his second consecutive start. Yellow Brick won for the ninth time in 27 starts in the $1 million Magic Millions Open at 6 1/2 furlongs at Eagle Farm on Jan. 10.

Yellow Brick is part of a field of 18 that includes Getafix, a closer who won a seven-furlong race for greys at Flemington Racecourse in November, and Need Some Luck, who closed from fifth of 11 to win the seven-furlong Buffering Stakes at Eagle Farm on Jan. 3.

The Magic Millions 2-Year-Old Classic has a post time of 1:05 a.m. Eastern on Saturday and is followed by the 3-Year-Old Guineas and Magic Millions Cup.
