Baltas sending Ag Bullet to Saratoga for Jaipur or Intercontinental

Barbara D. Livingston
Ag Bullet is likely to start next in the Jaipur against males or the Intercontinental, both at Saratoga.

Ag Bullet ended her 2024 season nearly winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint over five furlongs and finishing a strong third in the Grade 1 Matriarch at one mile, but her 2025 campaign began with a whimper. Favored in the Grade 3 Unbridled Sidney Stakes on May 2 at Churchill Downs, Ag Bullet pulled a tough trip and couldn’t overcome it, finishing seventh.

While the Churchill course was rated good, and Ag Bullet wants firm ground, trainer Richard Baltas said the ground was in great shape, and didn’t want to use conditions as an excuse. Ag Bullet’s trip, on the other hand – she was caught inside, in tight, and steadied in midstretch – definitely contributed to her defeat, Baltas believes.

While most of Baltas’s horses are based in California, he left Ag Bullet in Kentucky, stabled at Keeneland. He said he plans to send Ag Bullet to Saratoga, but connections have yet to decide whether Ag Bullet goes in the Grade 1, $500,000 Jaipur against males or sticks to sex-restricted competition in the $200,000 Intercontinental.
