Beer: Belmont horses to watch for week of Sept. 24, 2018

Barahin

Trainer: Kiaran McLaughlin

Last race: Sept. 19, 3rd

Finish: 1st by 5 1/2

Beyer: 88

Three-year-old colt by Street Sense ran an underrated race in his debut back in April, then returned from a layoff to make his second start and ran away from maidens with a visually impressive win in fast time.

Emmy Performance

Trainer: Brian Lynch

Last race: Sept. 20, 9th

Finish: 3rd by 3 1/4

Beyer: 79

Improvement in this well-bred turf filly isn't noticeable on paper, but she endured a couple of difficult trips following her maiden win back in June and she was up against it once again in this spot. She was bumped at the start to wind up last early, and came very wide to the stretch.

Vekoma

Trainer: George Weaver

Last race: Sept. 23, 3rd

Finish: 1st by 1 3/4

Beyer: 86

Candy Ride 2-year-old got bet for his debut and he traveled strongly right from the start before taking over and making short work of a good-looking field.

Epic Dreamer

Trainer: Kelly Breen

Last race: Sept. 23, 3rd

Finish: 2nd by 1 3/4

Beyer: 82

Colt by Orb debuted alongside Vekoma and made a nice appearance of his own while splitting horses at the top of the stretch and finishing gamely to go clear in second.
