Tuesday night First Four schedule, odds and best bets
Tipping things off at 6:40 p.m. ET, at UD Arena in Dayton is the South Region 16-seed matchup between Northeast Conference tourney champion Saint Francis (16-17) and Southwestern Athletic champ Alabama State (19-15).
Alabama State is a leading sportsbook-consensus 3.5-point favorite with a game total of 137.5 points.
That’s followed by the South 11-seed matchup between at-large qualifiers North Carolina (22-13) and San Diego State (21-9) at approximately 9:10 p.m.
The Tar Heels are consensus 4.5-point favorites with a game total of 142.5 points.

And now we get to Tuesday’s best First Four bets from analyst Gino Buccola of the Daily Racing Form:
Alabama State -3.5 (-112 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
The Hornets won 10 of their final 11 games to close out the season, including all three in the SWAC tournament. Saint Francis (PA) has won six straight and played three overtime games, winning the other three contests by 3 points apiece. Bama St. is just better on both ends, and it doesn’t feel like the Red Flash will be able to score with the Hornets.
San Diego State +4.5 (-105 at Caesars Sportsbook)
I haven’t been all that impressed with North Carolina this year as it finished 1-12 against Quad 1 opponents. The Tar Heels have been inconsistent, while the Aztecs can usually count on their strong, 13th-ranked defense (kenpom.com) to keep them in games. San Diego State had a couple of very nice wins earlier this year against NCAA 1-seed Houston and Creighton.
