Brad Free: Santa Anita horses to watch for week of April 25-27, 2025

COOEY
Trainer: Bob Baffert
Last race: April 25, 2nd
Finish: 2nd by 1
Beyer: 89
Maiden improved a ton in her third start. Dueled on rail, fought back inside her odds-on stablemate, and ran fast enough to win most maiden races. Short price next time out.

CASSIN’S ROSE
Trainer: Mark Glatt
Last race: April 25, 2nd
Finish: 5th by 13 3/4
Beyer: 61
Debut filly trained well, but perhaps was intimidated racing inside. Broke from rail, was unable to establish position, chased, faded. This race was a toss. Follow from an outside post.

OUR MOONLIGHT
Trainer: Dean Pederson
Last race: April 25, 8th
Finish: 2nd by 1
Beyer: 83
Comeback sprint filly was uncomfortable inside, wide on turn. She rallied wide, narrowed the gap, and galloped out super. Tapit filly has much promise. This was only her second start.

CATCH THE BREEZE
Trainer: Michael McCarthy
Last race: April 26, 1st
Finish: 4th by 2 1/2
Beyer: 69
First-time gelding was outrun early in maiden turf mile. Hard-held near the back, he made a wide far-turn move into lane, but was unable to sustain the rally. This was a much better-than-looked effort.

CLUBHOUSE CUTIE
Trainer: Ian Kruljac
Last race: April 26, 11th
Finish: 3rd by 2 1/2
Beyer: 67
Maiden filly by Clubhouse Ride is a sibling to Grade 1 winner The Chosen Vron. She improved switching to turf. Forwardly placed, raced wide, loomed, tired. Her next should be her best.

RAW ABILITY
Trainer: John Sadler
Last race: April 26, 7th
Finish: 8th by 7 3/4
Beyer: 72
Late-running filly was compromised by up-front strategy in Grade 3 turf mile. Forwardly placed chasing pace, she faded. Toss this. Wants to sit, wait, and blast home.

CALL ME CORY
Trainer: Ryan Hanson
Last race: April 27, 9th
Finish: 3rd by 1 1/4
Beyer: 69
Debut 3-year-old broke slowly in turf sprint, rushed inside, chased from third, cut corner, was outkicked. Promising debut by Uncle Mo colt. He has more speed than shown.

WINNING PATRIOT
Trainer: Carla Gaines
Last race: April 27, 11th
Finish: 2nd by 6
Beyer: 65
Debut 4-year-old in Cal-bred turf mile chased three wide in third, led into stretch, raced greenly, was outkicked by the favorite. This was a solid debut.
