DEL MAR, Calif. – Scottish Lassie, a two-time Grade 1-winning filly, was scratched out of Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar due to a minor issue in her right foreleg, trainer Jorge Abreu said Thursday morning.
“She galloped [Wednesday] and she schooled. She’s walking sound, but when I gave her a trot she wants to be a hair off right front,” Abreu said.
Abreu said it was his and his owner’s decision to scratch the horse, who was drawn in post 5 and was listed at 12-1 on the morning line.

“Can you imagine being out here and it’s the only horse I have here? But you always want to do the right thing by them,” Abreu said. “Better safe than sorry.”
Owned by Sportsmen Stable, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Photos Finish LLC, Corms Racing, and Abreu, Scottish Lassie has entered in Monday's Fasig-Tipton sale in Kentucky.
Scottish Lassie, a daughter of McKinzie, won 2 of 7 starts, including the Grade 1 Frizette as a maiden in 2024 and the Coaching Club American Oaks by 15 1/2 lengths in July. In her most recent start, Scottish Lassie finished fourth as the favorite in the Grade 1 Cotillion.
Scottish Lassie’s defection drops the Distaff to a 12-horse field.
