C W Prize on his toes for TRAO Classic Sprint

A sharp work has trainer Joe Offolter looking for a strong effort from C W Prize in the $55,000 Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma Classic Sprint on Tuesday at Will Rogers Downs.

The six-furlong race is for 3-year-olds and up bred in Oklahoma. The race drew a field of seven, and it’s slotted as the seventh race.

C W Prize worked a half-mile in 48 seconds on March 18, and the move was the third fastest of 32 at the distance that morning at Will Rogers. The stakes winner last raced March 4 and was second in an open-company sprint in his first out since December. C W Prize will break from post 3 under Richard Eramia.

“I look for a big effort,” Offolter said. “He really breezed good the other day and looked good.

“I felt like he needed the last race. He was not quite as sharp as he needed to be and he really breezed good last week. I look for a big effort out of him.”

C W Prize won the Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial at Remington Park to close his 4-year-old campaign Dec. 13. Earlier in the season, he ran second in both the track’s Oklahoma Classics Cup and Silver Goblin. C W Prize raced on the front end in those races and figures to again be prominent Tuesday.

“He’ll be right there,” Offolter said. “He doesn’t have to be right on the lead, but hopefully he’s just right there eyeballing. It looks like Connors Outlaw is the other speed, that’s right on the inside of him. So, Richard’s smart enough. He’ll put him where he needs to be. He won’t let that horse get loose, I don’t think.”

Connors Outlaw will break from post 2. The stakes winner enters the TRAO Classic Sprint off a fourth-place finish in an Oct. 4 allowance at Remington. He set the pace in the 5 1/2-furlong race, which were the same tactics he used to win this stakes last season at Will Rogers.

Leandro Goncalves has the mount for Cisper Racing and trainer Kari Craddock. Connors Outlaw boasts a 4-for-7 record at Will Rogers.

Legacy Account also could show speed after winning a first-level allowance on the front end March 3 at Will Rogers.

Tommyhawk can take advantage if the pace gets too hot. He exits the same allowance as C W Prize, finishing third. Luis Quinonez has the mount for trainer Randy Swango.

The field also includes Salt Creek Kid, who was a conditioned allowance winner last season at Remington Park. Mortify is getting back to one turn after racing in a pair of route races at Sam Houston, and his last win came at six furlongs in a conditioned allowance at Remington. Our Cornerstone is a four-time winner over the local strip at Will Rogers.
