A filly by Caracaro and a colt by Gun Runner tied for the fastest furlong, at 9 3/5 seconds, as the under-tack preview show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March sale of 2-year-olds in training concluded Saturday.
A three-session breeze show took place on the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack in advance of the OBS March sale, which formally opens on March 11-13. The Caracaro filly, who breezed Friday, and the Gun Runner colt, who matched her time in the final session on Saturday, distinguished themselves at the traditional breeze show distance, ahead of a logjam of 40 juveniles who worked in 9 4/5 seconds.
The Caracaro filly, from the second crop of her sire, makes up the single-horse consignment for Moses Longoria’s On The Run Sales.
“She’s a nice horse,” Longoria said. “She’s real athletic and I always felt like she was going to be fast. I’ve just been babying her the whole time, trying to save it until we got here. I’ve always liked her; she’s always been a nice filly. I’ve just kept my fingers crossed.”
The filly is the first foal out of the unraced Point of Entry mare Port Marazion. Graded stakes winners appearing on the catalog page include Grade 1 winner Faiza.
The colt by phenomenal young sire Gun Runner is consigned by Eddie Woods, as agent. He is the first foal out of the winning Liam’s Map mare Tynan, a half-sister to graded stakes winners Pappacap and Boppy O. Pappacap is by Gun Runner.
“He stepped right up and did his job today,” Woods said. “He’s very well made, he’s very balanced looking, and he’s a Gun Runner. They just run.”
A larger group of five juveniles tied for the fastest quarter-mile, at 20 2/5 seconds. The group was made up of colts by Midshipman and Mor Spirit and fillies by Aurelius Maximus, Charlatan, and Leinster. Charlatan and Leinster are among this year’s freshman sires, and Charlatan sired three seven-figure yearlings from his commercial offerings last year.
“We’ve got a big dose of Charlatans on the farm, and they all train well, they’re forward,” said Jimbo Gladwell of Top Line Sales, which consigns this filly. “I can’t say enough good things about him.”
