Comport, winner of the seven-furlong Ellis Juvenile on Aug. 10, will make his next start in the Iroquois Stakes on Sept. 13 at Churchill Downs.
“The Iroquois is a one-turn mile, so it’s a good progression for him. I would think two turns later on would be within his scope,” trainer Eddie Kenneally said.
Comport, a Collect colt owned by Joseph Sutton, won his debut on June 1 at Churchill, then was second to Romeo – who disappointed earlier this week in the Hopeful – in the Bashford Manor. In the Ellis Juvenile, Comport pressed the pace and drew away to a two-length win, earning an 80 Beyer Speed Figure.
“He came out of the race good mentally and he’s very good physically. He’s been working super,” Kenneally said.
