Turfway Park announced Wednesday that it will cancel this Friday and Saturday’s live racing cards due to continued subzero wind-chill temperatures forecast in Florence, Ky.
Turfway has not held races since Thursday, Jan. 22, and also lost several days of local training due to frigid temperatures and a snowstorm last weekend. The track races on Wednesday-Saturday schedule. Officials announced Tuesday that the Wednesday and Thursday cards were canceled, and then, after continuing to monitor conditions, announced the additional cancellations early Wednesday afternoon.
Turfway is scheduled to resume racing on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The temperature is forecast to climb above freezing on that date for the first time since Jan. 22.
Turfway officials said information regarding new dates for this weekend's scheduled stakes will be announced in the coming days. Friday's feature was to be the $125,000 Wishing Well Stakes for female sprinters, which was already rescheduled once from Jan. 24. Saturday's card was to include the $125,000 Forego Stakes for open sprinters.
When Turfway does resume racing, a pick six jackpot carryover of $399,081 survives.
