Crazy Mason works with eye on True North

Crazy Mason breezed a half-mile in 47.60 seconds over the Belmont training track on Sunday.

Crazy Mason, the Grade 2 Carter Stakes winner, was among the near 300 horses who put in workouts Sunday morning at Belmont Park, breezing a half-mile in 47.60 seconds over the training track. It was the fifth fastest of 227 works at the half-mile distance.

Crazy Mason, trained by Gregg Sacco, is being pointed to the Grade 3, $400,000 True North Stakes at Saratoga on June 7.

Sacco had a horse, Arcadian, break off in front of Crazy Mason “just to give him a little target. The gallop out was good, he cooled out great.”

Crazy Mason has won three consecutive races capped by a last-to-first victory in the Carter on April 5.

“He’s a happy horse, two months off now, he’s looking to get back in the gate, I think,” Sacco said. “He’s pretty rambunctious.”

Pablo Fragoso, who works for Todd Pletcher, worked Crazy Mason. Sacco said because of how well Fragoso gets along with Crazy Mason, he will leave the horse at Belmont for his final workout next weekend before shipping up to Saratoga.
