Cumberland Run: Kentucky Sires Stakes finals held

Hard Seven completed a Kentucky Sires Stakes sweep at Cumberland Run with his win in the final

Cumberland Run concluded their meet for 2024 on Tuesday afternoon with eight $100,000 Kentucky Sires Stakes finals for rookies and sophomores and four $50,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes events for 4-year-olds.

Todd McCarthy, who finished as leading driver overall this year at Cumberland Run, won three of the finals and a tilt for the 4-year-olds. He took the 2-year-old male trot with Hard Seven (by Chapter Seven and bred by Ola Yoder, paid $4.38 to win) in 1:54 3/5 for trainer Nancy Takter and owners Let It Ride Stables Inc., Maurice Chodash and Boca Racing LLC., the 3-year-old colt and gelding pace with Women Layer (by Sweet Lou, bred by Carl Howard, paid $2.24 to win) in 1:51 1/5 for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. and owners Let It Ride Stables Inc., Bowie Racing LLC., Jeff Fought Racing and Larry Wills and the rookie male pace with Bourbon County (by Always B Miki, bred by Big Als Stables, paid $2.76 to win) in 1:52 1/5 for trainer Tony Dinges and owners William Salmeri, Rick Berks and Steve Elliott.

McCarthy's other triumph came with 4-year-old gelding trotter Once In A Lifetime (by Father Patrick, bred by Coyote Wynd Farms, paid $2.54 to win), as he got the job done in 1:52 2/5 for trainer Jim Campbell and owner Sad Frog Farms.

Andy McCarthy also had multiple victories, taking two finals and a four-year-old event. He was victorious in the 2-year-old filly pace with Caviart Delight (by Always B Miki, bred by co-owner Caviart Farms, paid $3.98 to win) in 1:52 for trainer Tony Alagna and co-owner Alagna Racing LLC. and the 3-year-old filly trot with Tove Palema (by Walner, bred by Kentuckiana Farms with Bender Sweden Inc., paid $22.18 to win) in 1:54 4/5 for trainer Julie Miller.

Roger Cullipher-trained Railee Something (by International Moni, bred by owner Ron Mersky, paid $2.10 to win) was the elder McCarthy's winner in the 4-year-old mare trot in 1:52 2/5.

Scott Zeron took the 3-year-old male trot final with Naked Cowboy (by Tactical Landing, bred by Crawford Farms, paid $10.84 to win) in 1:54 3/5 for co-owner/trainer Dylan Davis and co-owner Howard Taylor and the 4-year-old mare pace with Queen's Reign (by JK Endofanera, bred by owner Watermark Farm LLC., paid $9.32 to win) in 1:50 3/5 for trainer Darla Gaskin.

In other results, Yo Tillie, who was bred by GBW Breeding Farms Inc. and Black Creek Farm and paid $4.24 to win, captured the final for filly trotters in 1:53 4/5 for owner/trainer/driver Verlin Yoder, Fearless Bettor (by Betting Line, bred by Anvil And Lace Farm, paid $4.84 to win) took the 3-year-old filly pace final in 1:52 2/5 for driver David Miller, trainer Tony Dinges and owners William Salmeri and Steve Elliott and the 4-year-old male pace was captured by Admiral Hill (by Sweet Lou, bred by Tom Hill, paid $2.32 to win) in 1:49 1/5 for driver Yannick Gingras, trainer Per Engblom and owner Morrison Racing Stables.
