Donegal Momentum all good after stumble

Donegal Momentum stumbled and was pulled up in the Kelso but may still start in the Fourstardave.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Aside from a scrape on his right hind pastern, all was well with Donegal Momentum following a bad-looking stumble during the running of Saturday’s Grade 3 Kelso Stakes, trainer Tom Morley said.

“Thank God, everyone in the race – horses and people – came back in one piece,” Morley said.

Donegal Momentum was pressing the pace when he stumbled going into the far turn under Javier Castellano, who stayed on and eased the horse out of the race. Morley said he would monitor the horse’s training but said the Grade 1 Fourstardave on Aug. 2 is still under consideration.

Meanwhile, Morley’s 3-year-old colt One Nine Hundred earned a 95 Beyer Speed Figure winning a first-level allowance race by 1 3/4 lengths on Sunday. A son of Dialed In, One Nine Hundred won for the second time from five starts. It was a nice rebound from a fifth-place finish as the favorite in the Chick Lang Stakes at Pimlico on the May 17 Preakness Day card.

“At Pimlico, he lost his mind in the indoor paddock, and the dynamics of the race didn’t work in there," Morley said. “Today, he was very confident and controlled, and it was great to see him back in the winner’s circle.”

◗ Fionn, who upset heavily favored Nitrogen in Saturday’s Grade 1 Belmont Oaks at Saratoga, has the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II at Keeneland in October as her major goal for the remainder of 2025, trainer Brad Cox said. How she gets there is not yet known.

There is the Grade 2, $500,000 Saratoga Oaks here on Aug. 9 or potentially the $2 million Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf going one mile on Aug. 30 or the $2 million Dueling Grounds Oaks Invitational at 1 5/16 miles on Sept. 10.
