Faze grabbed her first career Grand Circuit Stakes victory by taking Wednesday night's $133,100 Matron for 2-year-old filly pacers at Bally's Dover in 1:53 1/5.
Driven by Tim Tetrick, Faze left out quickly from post six and then yielded to a two-wide move by 2-5 favorite Rose (Yannick Gingras) passing the opening quarter in a quick 26 4/5. Rose, who started from the outside post seven, then backed down the tempo to 56 1/5 at the half and 1:24 3/5 at three-quarters as Pilar Hanover (Allan Davis) attacked first-over out of the fifth position as the field raced in the backstretch for the final time.
Pilar Hanover's bid stalled out on the last turn and then she tired in the lane, leaving Rose and Faze to decide it. Faze went into the passing lane in the stretch, and she was able to out-foot a game Rose late in the mile, getting up for the victory by a neck. Lyons Benz (Corey Callahan) was third, followed by Beckoning Yankee (Andy McCarthy) and Calamity Hour (Tony Morgan).
