DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, June 26, 2025

Barbara D. Livingston
First post for Belmont at the Big A racing is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:10 BAQ 1st MY TWO SOPHIA'S (#6, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race

2:04 BAQ 3rd SPIRIT DRAGON (#5, 5-1) was the lone first-time starter in that field when taking on seven furlongs over a wet track in his debut, and he ran well after having to recover position following a bit of a slow start from the rail; adds Lasix as he makes his second start for Kimmel - maiden, second career start, dirt, sprint: 5 for his last 16, 31%, $5.36 ROI. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

2:20 GP 4th THREE RUN BOLT (#6, 9-2) catches a race with good speed and wants to pass runners. Her return try was a nice even effort at 6-1. A return to two turns just has to help and this barn is 18% going sprint to route. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

3:03 BAQ 5th MIDNIGHTLOVEAFFAIR (#4, 6-1) was let go at a big price when debuting in a turf sprint last November and was a relative non-factor, though she might have run a bit better than it looks in that spot while bumping at the start and winding up last, before trying a wide run around the turn to no avail; like her returning to the grass for the 3yo debut, this time with class relief and Lasix on. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

3:20 GP 6th FORMULATE (#4, 5-1) figures a good trip as race flow is fast. If you toss his two tries on the turf then he looks better. This guy won his only dirt start and it came going this distance. We like that this gelding puts four races together. Win rider returns in Gonzalez. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

3:34 BAQ 6th ALICE FANTASTIC (#1, 8-1) was giving away experience as the only first-time starter in that field when making her debut last December, and she wound up well back in that field early before making a wide run around the turn and then flattening out; got herself caught behind horses as the race was developing around her when back on grass last time, though might have lacked late punch once again when finally clear; one more chance at a price. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

3:50 GP 7th LIGHTS OF BROADWAY (#6, 9-2) will be a good price. He is capable of a Beyer in the 80's which is what is needed today. A return to the synth can only help and maybe that turf race shook things up a bit. Or maybe the jock switch to Jaramillo will do the same. Any chance this horse is just better when the temps get hotter? -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

3:59 WO 3rd REGAL MOMENT (#2, 7-2) failed to muster up a challenge when returning from a six-month break in a key 6 1/2-furlong sprint June 1 that was too short for her. The Woodbine Oaks nominee is moving out to the more suitable distance of 1 1/16 miles with a hot Aebly back riding for Simon. By Point of Entry, the half-sister to stakes-placed marathoner English Conqueror is bred to be a late bloomer. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

5:35 WO 6th WELLER GREEN (#2, 7-2) is a DRF Bet Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race

6:06 WO 7th HANLAN (#6, 6-1) won an ultra-key $15K non-two tilt off a layoff in his penultimate outing before doubling up vs. $25K non-three opposition. He's a decent fit in this starter/optional claimer, in which his tactical speed should come in handy after breaking from towards the outside. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
