DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, April 11, 2025

Tom Keyser
First post for Tampa Bay Downs racing is scheduled for 4:50 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:00 KEE 1st DANCIN WITH ANGELS (#3, 6-1) raced on the lead in her last two starts, but those were two-turn Delta sprints, and she'll stalk the pace in this speed-packed starter allowance. Generally has raced at higher levels than most of these and almost certainly a fair price. – Marcus Hersh

1:37 TAM 3rd MISHKA (#6, 10-1) makes her third start off the layoff and fits well enough on the strength of her best Beyers; she has a decent late kick and she should get at least some help from the pacesetters. – Kenny Peck

2:26 GP 4th MAJORCA (#4, 6-1) looking to rebound off disappointing effort last time when losing best chance bobbling at break then hung wide throughout. Not persevered with late stages. Returns off a series of works that includes holding own with no less a mate than Fierceness at PBD on 3/21. – Mike Welsch

2:43 TAM 5th Thought KEEN SURGE (#10, 8-1) ran a big race despite finishing off the board in his turf debut, beaten less than a length after a strong rally; that effort is better than it may look, as that was a paceless race and thus favored the speeds in terms of race flow (note the bold "S" in pp line), and he can make the last run given an honest tempo up front. – Kenny Peck

2:48 AQU 4th PINEAPPLE MAN (#2, 7-2) was first back from a long layoff last time when getting outrun early, before putting in a nice late run to fall just short of second/third, and then galloping out well past the wire; has plenty of back races that make him tough in here, and he should be sharper second off the bench. – Mike Beer

3:50 AQU 6th FUHGEDDABOUDIT (#4, 4-1) is a DRF Best bet (Mike Beer).

4:18 TAM 8th MARVELOUS LADY (#7, 4-1) is a DRF Best bet (Kenny Peck).

4:54 AQU 8th SO SPIRITED (#6, 6-1) was nearly eliminated at the start of his debut 20 days ago and did well to finish as close as he did in the end; half-brother to multiple stakes-placed sprinter and 14-time winner Thorny Tale is expected to do a lot better if off to a clean start this time. – Mike Beer

5:16 KEE 9th Torn on TRIKARI (#3, 8-1) - is he top class or not quite? On the one hand, his versatility over distances between 9 1/2 and 8 furlongs last year very impressive. On the other, the Belmont race wasn't especially strong, and outside the horse behind him at Colonial, that field wasn't much. That said, he hardly could've been more visually impressive at Colonial, and by the time Trikari went to California to face elders, he might have been declining from his summer peak after a long campaign. I definitely chalk his Bryan Station up to that. Very encouraging workout video, and now is the time to get him if he turns out to be this kind of horse. – Marcus Hersh
