DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, February 7, 2025

Barbara D. Livingston
First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:20 GP 1st SENOR MARCELO (#8, 8-1) showed good early foot before hampering rider severely trying to get out on the turn when trying turf for first time last month. Like the fact barn sees fit to try him over the surface again. Might get brave if able to sprint clear, hold the bend, second time over the surface at a square price. – Mike Welsch

1:10 AQU 1st CUPRITE (#4, 5-1) flashed good speed before tiring late on debut at the MSW level, running a race there that would make her tough should she repeat it against this field. She missed 462 days after that, and was forced to chase a fast pace when returned at this level last month with Lasix on; had a right to need that one after such a long layoff, and she can do a lot better as she puts races together for the first time. – Mike Beer

2:56 OP 4th BIG ANDY MORT (#3, 9-2) moves back into the Arkansas-bred ranks and can make a real impact with a repeat of his effort from December. – Mary Rampellini

3:56 OP 6th INTERLOCK EMPIRE (#4, 5-1) finished in front of some of these last out and is a logical choice back. – Mary Rampellini

4:08 AQU 7th FANATICAL (#2, 6-1) got bet into a couple of well-connected and ultimately well-meant colts in the debut at Fair Grounds, and he could only chase those two rivals to no avail before finishing a clear third in a race that came back very fast (96 Beyer for the winner). His connections likely expected to land in a much softer spot shipping here, but that may not be the case with COLLOQUIAL making his return here, along with a couple of other interesting colts, but still expecting him to be tough for a trainer sporting strong numbers with maidens after a start. – Mike Beer

4:38 AQU 8th MOONLIGHT GAL (#1, 3-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).

4:42 GP 9th LOWER BROADWAY (#5, 4-1) is a DRF Best bet (Mike Welsch).

5:05 SA 4th A promising runner-up comeback by HAVE PATIENCE (#5-2) stamps her the one to beat second start following a nine-month layoff. She finally got a good trip last out switching to Frankie Dettori, who rides her back. With a front-running/pace-pressing trip, 'PATIENCE should be tough at a short price. – Brad Free
