DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, September 5, 2025

Ryan Thompson
First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

Post Time: 1:20 ET
Track: Gulfstream (2nd Race)
Horse: ADSILA (#10, 6-1)

ADSILA tried two turns, the synth, and special weights all for the first time in her second start. She then beat over half the field home at 14-1. Now she drops in class and returns to the turf for what we like to call the money run. – Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 2:20 ET
Track: Gulfstream (4th Race)
Horse: WANT ALL THE SMOKE (#1, 8-1)

WANT ALL THE SMOKE might sit the best trip if she can break well from the rail. Of course, we need the two speeds in here to actually run. Form cycle hints at better as this filly drops a notch. Now we just need her to like a real dirt surface. – Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 2:29 ET
Track: Laurel (6th Race)
Horse: MALIBU'S RUMRUNNER (#3, 6-1)

MALIBU'S RUMRUNNER is the only juvenile shipping in for this race, and Beattie is notorious for his well-placed 2-year-olds; the trainer picks his spots immensely well in a small sample size, striking at 35% with his last 17 juvenile runners; sire Bourbon Courage wins with 13% of juvenile firsters, but the real appeal here comes from the dam, as Sunday in Malibu has produced four debut winners and two runner-ups from a group of 10 to reach the track; Beattie likes what he sees at Penn National. – Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 4:59 ET
Track: Woodbine (2nd Race)
Horse: PICKFORD SWEET (#1, 6-1)

PICKFORD SWEET woke up on the drop to this bottom non-two level last time when a narrowly beaten second in his second try under Aebly. He's moving out from a sprint to a route for a trainer who sent out a stretch-out runner to finish a solid second the other day. – Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 5:57 ET
Track: Woodbine (4th Race)
Horse: TRUE SHOT (#7, 20-1)

TRUE SHOT is exiting back-to-back closing scores on the inner turf vs. maidens and non-two opposition. He has lots of speed to chase in this much tougher $25K non-three inner turf tilt and could strike again at a price. – Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 7:21 ET
Track: Colonial Downs (8th Race)
Horse: TINKATWO (#6, 8-1)

TINKATWO finally gets back on turf being out of a 116K-earning grass dam. Toss out last on fast dirt when she did not make the end. Returned from almost a 2-year absence to post a new Beyer speed figure Top 2-back racing on the lead and hopes to clear off early here as she should love grass. – Scott Gropper | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 8:32 ET
Track: Del Mar (6th Race)
Horse: COUNTERBALANCE (#6, 4-1)

COUNTERBALANCE is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free). | Get Past Performances for this race
