Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:50 MTH 1st DIXIE ESCAPE (#8, 10-1) is out of a dam who won on the grass and she produced several turf winners, including multiple stakes winner Tricky Escape, who earned nearly $900K; that makes it likely this filly handles this new surface, and the fact that trainer Jorge Delgado wins at 24% with first-time turfers adds to the appeal. – Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
2:18 WO 3rd CAYENNE KISS (#6, 6-1) has worked fast for a trainer who can have one ready and the daughter of successful Ontario sire Silent Name is a half-sister to the useful sprinter Chipotle Pepper. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
2:56 LRL 7th MELANCIA (#2, 12-1) is a fascinating runner sticking around these parts for Atras, who fares much better on the turf in Maryland than he does in New York; in the past five years, the trainer has brought two horses to Laurel for their turf debuts, earning a victory and place finish; sire World of Trouble was a highly versatile sprinter himself and has passed that trait on to many of his offspring, so this filly certainly deserves a second look. – Patrick Moquin | Get PPs for this race
3:40 BAQ 6th TRUST FUND (#6, 9-2) missed a lot of time after showing potential as a 2yo, and he didn't come back to form right away when returned from the long layoff; wound up dropping into the claiming ranks last month, though that was no soft spot when considering that runnerup Reynolds Channel was also dropping for the first time, and that he had earned a 90 Beyer breaking his maiden. TRUST FUND not only won that race, but he won it convincingly after getting blocked and having to alter course in the stretch; figures tough right back. – Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
3:57 MTH 7th HAPPY OFFERING (#5, 9-2) was a remote 2nd in his debut but that was a very good effort, as he was on the rail early and wide late on a day when the frontrunners held the edge; the Beyer puts him on the short list of contenders, and though he turns back to a sprint he should have enough tactical speed to stay close from the start. – Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
4:30 MTH 8th OUTRUNNER (#10, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race
4:46 BAQ 8th D C BOY'S (#5, 8-1) has steadily improved on dirt through four starts. Levine did try to get him on turf last summer, and he has enough pedigree to move up with the surface switch as a half-brother to Out On Bail, who is a stakes winner and multiple stakes-placed on the surface. – Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
5:05 GP 9th WESTHAMPTON (#7, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race
5:51 BAQ 10th KID KREESA (#2, 30-1) had an excuse for the one poor turf effort as a 2yo, and he was in good form up to the maiden win at Saratoga last summer, for which he moved up in class; has been in too tough in all three starts since then; steps back with speed. – Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
8:10 CBY 5th ADD TO CART (#3, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race
9:10 CBY 7th SEAHORSE STAMPEDE (#2, 6-1) won his debut going two turns on the turf and that is tough to do. He improved in his second turf start and ran a Beyer top when beating half the field home. His third start is the key. He turned around in only seven days and lost by a head all while getting a ton of play at 3-1. His most recent at Prairie was poor but he was shipping in and tried the dirt for the first time. That race darkens his form and gets us a better price today. This gelding loves the grass and even gets some pace to chase today. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
9:40 CBY 8th TOUR QUEEN (#7, 6-1) is a new turf horse. She got a Beyer top of 90 when last seen on this sod. She has a string of works to get ready and this barn is 17% off a long layoff. Her last race came back key when 2 of 10 returned to win with figs of 95 and 76 (two more finished second with figs of 84 and 80). Team Garrett are 20% on the turf and 25% with their routers (14% in stakes with a flat bet profit). A stalking trip would work best as there is some speed in here. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
