DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, February 27, 2025

Joe Labozzetta/NYRA
First post for Aqueduct racing is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:50 GP 1st DOWNTOWN RO (#5, 5-1) is by a 14% debut sire. Her dam went 18-2-5-4 and earned 211K. All five sibs won of which four beat winners (top 3 earned: 199K, 302K, and 236K). Trainer stats are solid including 2 for 5 with debut maiden claimers. Seven furlongs is no picnic for a debut but works are plentiful. Alvarado gets a leg up and is 31% for this barn locally. If this filly has speed then that is a bonus as there isn't much pace in this race. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:22 GP 2nd TREE C'S KAI (#4, 6-1) has speed in a race without much pace so a front end try is more likely than not. This filly tired late in her most recent and that race came back key when 3 of 6 returned to win with Beyers of 62, 57, and 64. A return to the grass is what we like best and this filly ran a Beyer top in all of her turf starts. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:08 AQU 3rd NARCISO DALI (#3, 4-1) scored with an 85 Beyer in his first start off the claim for Englehart, then tried some tougher competition through the first part of 2024 to no avail; landed in a fast race sprinting and steadily lost ground in his first start back from a long layoff last time; threat if ready to move forward with that tightener under his belt. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:08 AQU 5th DR. KRAFT (#2, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:38 AQU 6th EASTERN STAR (#3, 4-1) simply hasn't been good enough to break through in the MSW ranks, though she managed to hit the board in six of her first eight starts at that level; finally taking needed class relief after fading in two January starts vs toguher. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:53 TUP 3rd There is some pace in this shortened sprint as four of six want the front end. DISTINCTIVE DEB (#3, 8-1) is feeling good and now ends up in a new barn that is 1 for 1 off the claim. This mare likes to win in general and keeps win rider. The half furlong cut back shouldn't be a problem. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:38 AQU 8th CUANDO (#3, 8-1) is running out of chances but he enters this MSW with the top figure, earned going this distance at Saratoga, and he also ran well in a few of his earlier starts on dirt while facing tough competition; back from a needed freshening as a new gelding with speed. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:01 GP 9th LIGHT FOREVER (#9, 6-1) has run a Beyer top in all three of his grass starts. One of three sibs is 11-4-1-0 on the green for 135K. New barn is only 7% off the claim but they are 17% on the grass and 20% with their maiden claimers. A stalking trip from this post is no help but it isn't a deal breaker either. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:59 TUP 7th JAIME'S COMMITMENT (#9, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:31 TUP 8th We are expecting a big price for RANDOS LADY (#8, 20-1) who tries the green for the first time. Her sire gets 6% debut turf winners. Her dam (mom) is 7-1-3-1 on the grass and earned 73K. Of six sibs to try the green, four won and all four beat winners (112K, 172K, 494K, and 86K). Current form is poor but this barn is 2 for 3 going sprint to route. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets
