DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, January 30, 2025

Joe Labozzetta/NYRA
First post for Aqueduct racing is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:26 GP 3rd LOVE PARADOX (#4, 4-1) drops a notch in class but really hasn't done much in her last five starts. Enter Irad who is 3 for 5 for team Alter. This mare can fire fresh as she won her debut. This mare does have excuses for her last two starts with head turned at start and first time two turns. Still, this is mostly a jockey/trainer play. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:56 GP 4th MAJESTY'S SONG (#4, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:08 AQU 3rd KISS ME HARDY (#4, 6-1) was running races last summer at Parx and Delaware that would give her a big shot against this field; it seems she's regressed recently, but she had no chance last time chasing home 6-for-9 Irish Maxima, who earned a 101 Beyer in victory; gets logical class relief here while picking up one of the top riders at this meet; Kirby doesn't start many at NYRA, but has won 4 races here in the last 5 years. -David Aragona | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:38 AQU 4th In a race full of plodders, perhaps FIRST TRUMPET (#5, 10-1) can jump out to an early lead and get brave up front; has run some of his best career races at this 9F distance over the Aqueduct dirt; was simply overmatched against a tougher field when he tried winners last time, but this is a more appropriate spot. -David Aragona | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:26 TUP 3rd MERINO WOOL (#8, 10-1) just loves this dirt at 5-1-3-0. Recent turf starts are OK and we like that this mare returns right on time. She can get the distance in her sleep and even gets some pace to chase. This 9YO gets a new pilot and figures a square price. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:03 GP 8th BEAUTY REIGNS (#8, 9-2) never got a breather in her debut but still won for team Mott. Not only did she try graded foes in her second start but it was going 9 furlongs. Things didn't work out but that is fine. Now connections want two turns something this filly should adore. Alvarado often rides for team Mott and is 20% when doing so locally. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:07 AQU 7th CEES GET DEGREES (#1, 5-1) did not draw an ideal post, breaking from the rail with plenty of other speed outside; however, he's usually sharp from the gate and obviously fits well at this level; he did not get ideal rides or trips when adopting rating tactics in his last 2 starts; now switches to the much more aggressive Romero Maragh and has also been claimed by Steven Schauer, who has done very well with Giroovin (see Race 8) since acquiring him. -David Aragona | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:31 TUP 7th SEA OF LIBERTY (#2, 8-1) has gotten a Beyer of 70 or better in 3 of his last 8 starts. He ran evenly in his most recent but that was his first start here. He figures to improve second time on this dirt. At times, he has some tactical speed and that would work well with this inside post. Jock switch to Cruz is noted. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets
