DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, July 3, 2025

Barbara D. Livingston
First post for Saratoga racing is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

2:48 SAR 4th CANDY IS DANDY (#6, 8-1) raced very greenly in the MSW debut on dirt, and did some running between calls in that spot when trying a wide run on the turn; has tried routing on turf twice since to no avail; might be better than she looks as she returns to dirt, this time with significant class relief. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

3:53 SAR 6th PAN PAN (#7, 5-1) is the first foal from her winning dam, who is a sister to multiple graded stakes winning dirt sprinter Street Story; this is the female family of Point Given; the work tab leading up to the debut is limited, but Irad takes the mount, and Ortiz is underrated with first-time starters - 2yo, debut, dirt, sprint: 13 for his last 67, 19%, $3.41 ROI. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

5:52 WO 6th LUZ DE LA LUNA (#2, 8-1) inherited the lead before fading late to fifth when moving out to seven-eighths in her second run of the season, when she was re-claimed by the connections who did so well with her in the past. She's always done her optimum running from mid-pack, which was the case when she out-finished CHROMEPLATED HEART while annexing her penultimate race going 5 1/2 furlongs at this level. Note that she's 3 for 6 going six furlongs. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

6:48 SAR 11th BINT AL DANDY (#2, 6-1) finished well through traffic to get second at a price in her debut in Ireland; put blinkers on for the stateside debut at Kentucky Downs, where she was away last from the gate behind a wire-to-wire winner; was getting bet in a tougher race up here last month when she acted up in the gate and was forced to scratch; blinkers are off for the return, and she appears to be training forwardly. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

6:58 WO 8th LA RONDE (#7, 6-1) got away slowly before taking the long way home from fifth to third over an inside-biased track in her debut on the Tapeta. The daughter of Shaman Ghost is strongly bred for turf on the dam's side and might be well-suited to a two-turn distance on the inner course. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

7:12 CBY 5th I'LL MAKE BANK (#7, 4-1) comes in fresh which might sharpen his early speed a tad more. He draws ideally with this outside post and did run well in his debut which bodes well for this. Works are solid and the leading barn calls the shots. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

8:51 CBY 8th BAYOU CANDY (#5, 4-1) tried much tougher in her first two turf starts. She ran evenly in her return sprint even though she broke last. We like that this filly returns to routing. She is a half to Twoko Bay (349K, multiple turf winner) and Two By Two (308K). Second time on this sod and off the layoff round out the appeal. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

9:25 CBY 9th HATTIE BLOOM (#6, 6-1) wanted the grass off the layoff but it was rained off. We like that connections ran her anyway. This filly is just much better on the green. Murray gets a leg up and is 2 for 5 for this barn locally. We know this 4YO likes this sod at 4-1-2-0. Tactical speed helps the trip and race flow is fine. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

9:59 CBY 10th BRUCKNER (#2, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race
