Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:50 GP 1st TALL STORY (#7, 3-1) did little in his debut but that was a tough nine furlongs. Plus, this guy didn't want to load and then blew the start. We love this move to the turf all for a horse that can run all day. Sire gets 14% debut turf winners. His dam never tried the green. Three of four sibs won on the sod. Lone knock is that team Sisterson is 0 for 22 with their first turf runners. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
1:10 BAQ 1st VENERINI (#4, 8-1) is by excellent debut and turf sire Wootten Bassett, and is a full-sister to Group 3-winning turf sprinter Ides of March; dam Nickname was a Grade 1-winning juvenile on dirt, and she also ran well in her two appearances on the grass; looks well-meant for Pletcher, who also sends out second-time starter NONNA'S LOVE for her turf debut. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
1:48 GP 3rd SPICY GUACAMOLE (#4, 3-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race
3:16 GP 6th POIEMA (#6, 5-2) returns off the short layoff with four works in tow. New barn is 1 for 2 off the claim. This mare draws outside main pace foes and is more likely than not to find the front end today. She has done all of her winning on this surface so there is that. Her recent class drop is what made her eligible for this spot and a good spot it is. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
3:29 WO 2nd ROCK HARD ROSE (#7, 9-2) made the board in one of three turf outings at three different American tracks. She's protected by waiver in her first race since a chalky fourth among two next-out winners in a five-furlong Tapeta dash Jan. 8. Her hot trainer has excellent numbers with new shooters and similar comebackers. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
3:34 BAQ 6th MELLE MEL (#4, 4-1) was bet hard as an MTO in her debut at Saratoga last summer, and ran pretty well in that spot while green and wide after failing to break sharply from the gate; blew out maidens in her first attempt over fast dirt, then got in too tough; fits well here and might be dirtied up. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
4:16 GP 8th LOVE MAMI LOVE (#6, 5-2) just didn't fire last out as the chalk and that was a bit surprising as she is proven when fresh. We like that team Joseph keep this mare at this level when they could have easily dropped her down. Zayas returns and he has won with her before. Today's pace is much better and the price might be decent. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
4:36 BAQ 8th MAC TO MOORE (#1, 12-1) is 0-4 on turf so far, though she has run well on each of those starts, including a front-running try vs much tougher at Saratoga last summer; she has also been competitive in her three starts over synthetic tracks, including the maiden win last time; interesting back to turf at a fair price. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
4:56 WO 5th CRUMLIN TROUBLE (#3, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race
5:54 WO 7th ROI SOLEIL (#4, 6-1) had a wide trip over an inside/favoring track when fourth in a tough Tapeta tilt at this level that was won by the unbeaten Frac Dancer May 25. The closer won his last five-furlong inner turf try in October and has lots of speed to chase here under Nicholls. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
6:10 SA 5th A better-than-looked sixth-place comeback by ULTIMATE GAMBLE (#3, 4-1) gives him a license to upset this N2X/optional claiming dirt mile. 'GAMBLE had been off nine months when he returned in a sprint won by stablemate/favorite Judge Miller. 'GAMBLE, who is not a sprinter, lagged at the back, finished evenly, and galloped out in front. It was a useful tune-up for the lightly raced 5yo, whose SA routes in 2023-24 rank among the fastest by any in the field. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race
6:23 WO 8th BLAZE OF MISCHIEF (#9, 12-1) never challenged at 14-1 the only time she went postward last July in an OS/$40K dash that contained two next-out winners. The daughter of hard-knocking sire Maximus Mischief has worked encouraging leading up to this weak $10K maiden event and has seemingly found her friends. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
7:10 SA 7th SUPER ELLIE (#2, 9-2) is better than her last start suggests; she finished fifth as the 2-1 favorite in a claiming turf mile. She had an alibi. She broke last, was not asked for speed, trailed to the far turn, angled outside and finished on her own. It was not as bad as it looks on paper. Her win over this turf course three starts back ranks among the fastest turf routes by any in the field; the gray filly can return to form with a rider switch to Kazushi Kimura. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race
7:40 SA 8th First-time starter GRIEVOUS ANGEL (#6, 9-2) debuts with a strong series of works at Los Alamitos for trainer Phil D'Amato. 'ANGEL is by the stallion Tough Sunday, whose six runners include three debut winners. The dam of 'ANGEL produced five winners (four multiple winners). None won first out, three won second time out. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race
