DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, June 19, 2025

Barbara D. Livingston
First post for Belmont at the Big A racing is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:50 GP 1st UNCLE PACO (#3, 9-2) is by a 15% debut sire. His dam was un-raced. Both sibs beat winners and earned 216K and 56K. Works are well spaced and Zayas gets a leg up. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

1:20 GP 2nd LITTLE TORCH (#9, 12-1) is by a 18% debut sire (2YO's only) and a 11% debut turf sire (all starters). Her dam went 40-6-7-4 and earned 291K (217K on the grass). This is her first foal. Works are well spaced and we spy some quick ones. Turf and distance Tomlinsons hint at turf sprint ability at 320/370. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

1:37 BAQ 2nd In a race where the proven options don't really entice me, ASKINGFORAFRIEND (#3, 10-1) seems like an intriguing wild card as he gets plenty of changes for his return; took no money on debut but that was an awfully tough state-bred maiden, including future stakes winners Sand Devil and Prince Valiant; now returns as a new gelding switching to Mike Maker, and trying turf for the first time. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race

2:50 GP 5th ASK THE MONARCH (#6, 4-1) puts the blinkers on and sheds twelve pounds. She has to gun, right? She draws more outside today and tries this level for the second time. A better break would help and she does add a full furlong today both of which should help front end chances. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

3:34 BAQ 6th Can't resist the first off the claim angle for MISS LAO (#8, 7-2), as Brad Cox is 12-for-27 (44%, $2.00 ROI) with that move on the NYRA dirt over 5 years; tailed off a bit for Dennis Lalman this spring, but at least got a confidence boosting win last time; has form from late last year that will beat this group, and Cox has a knack for getting these new acquisitions back to their best form. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race

3:58 WO 3rd QUIET MADDELENA (#4, 8-1) has been in a tailspin while competing on dirt and Tapeta since landing back-to-back five-furlong inner turf dashes last summer. She had a troubled run when favored most recently and could mow down all the speed in her third start off a break under Campos, who's 3 for 8 at the meet for the barn. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

4:05 BAQ 7th DATAMAN (#7, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (David Aragona). | Get PPs for this race

4:27 WO 4th PURRFECT GIRL (#8, 6-1) closed four-wide on the far turn last out to beat $15K maidens when returning to Woodbine on the Tapeta following a winter stint at Turfway. She ran hot and cold on the grass in New York in the past and could prevail in this wide open inner turf route for $25K non-two distaffers. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

4:36 BAQ 8th GRACIE GIRL (#3, 15-1) hasn't shown much in her prior dirt starts, but there are enough turf influences in her pedigree to suggest she may move up on this surface; her dam was a career maiden but achieved her best results on turf; her dam is a half-sister to multiple turf stakes winner Invading Humor and turf stakes-place Distorted Beauty; seems like a decent spot to take a shot with this type since there's little turf form in this field. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race
