DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, March 27, 2025

Barbara D. Livingston
First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:50 GP 1st There is little pace in this race. Let's see if REDFIRE (#4, 9-2) can take advantage. She gets in light and tries this Tapeta for the second time. Team Lerman is 38% second off this type of layoff and 23% on the synth. If this filly doesn't want the front end then she won't be that far off whomever does. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

1:22 GP 2nd MISCHIEF NIGHT (#8, 9-2) tried the turf and two turns for the first time last out and ran a solid second as the favorite. Second time everything can only help. New barn is 17% off the claim and they want tougher right off the bat. We like that this horse puts races together and has a pair of recent works. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

2:58 GP 5th CARCONE (#6, 8-1) looks even better if you toss that turf route in his second start. Current form is sharp and now he goes third off the layoff. He has three recent works, draws fine, and gets some pace to chase. We like that connections once again find a spot where this April bred can't be claimed. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

4:51 TUP 5th SAHARA SUE (#2, 6-1) is feeling great and now gets a weight break with Americano up. This mare tried this tricky distance for the first time two back and out ran her odds when 3rd at 12-1. She was stuck on the rail that day and broke 7th of 9 but still showed good speed. There just isn't much pace in this race. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

5:01 GP 9th MEDIA SENSATION (#1, 6-1) can sit the trip from the rail all in a race with good pace. This gelding missed a Beyer top by two points two back and that was on the turf from the rail. This gelding should be fully acclimated to here now and this barn is having a fantastic meet. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race

5:49 TUP 7th ITS A BOY (#6, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race

6:19 TUP 8th LORD SHELDON (#1, 9-2) is feeling great and we doubt this short layoff is going to hurt any. This horse just missed three back and did so off a layoff while going this distance all from the rail. With a better start, he could have won that race at 9-1. There is a lot of speed in this race and this horse wants to pass runners. Works are fine and the price should be the same. Oh, his last race came back key when 4 of 11 returned to win with figs of 70, 63, 73, and 79. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
