Eagles Flight, a half-brother to 2022 Horse of the Year Flightline, was withdrawn from an allowance race at Santa Anita on Sunday because of a minor foot ailment, trainer John Sadler said.
“He popped a little quarter crack, so we scratched,” Sadler said on Wednesday. “He’s already back on the track.”
Sadler said he was taking a cautious approach to Eagles Flight’s training this week because of much-needed rain in Southern California. There was no main track training at Santa Anita on Wednesday, with exercise restricted to the infield's synthetic training track. There are forecasts for more rain on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We’ll see how much rain we get in the next couple of days,” Sadler said. “Hopefully, we won’t miss too much training.”
Eagles Flight, by Curlin, won his debut last May and was runner-up in his second start in an allowance race at a mile at Santa Anita on Jan. 4. A 4-year-old colt, Eagles Flight races for the partnership of Hronis Racing, Summer Wind Equine, and W.S. Farish.
