Eireann held off a closing Elegant Echo for a 1 1/4-length win Monday in the $50,000 Blue Ribbon Stakes at Will Rogers Downs. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third to Caleb’s Finest.
The six-furlong race was the first stakes of the meet. It was for 3-year-old fillies bred in Oklahoma.
Eireann ($10) was cutting back to one turn after taking the one-mile Slide Show in her most recent out Nov. 8 at Remington Park. She stalked the pace, moved to the lead past the quarter pole, and covered the distance on a fast track in 1:12.09.
There were no fractional times available.
Eireann, who was a maiden winner at one turn, is trained by Mark Buehrer. He also co-owns the daughter of Flat Out in partnership with Steve Dupy. Freddy Manrrique was aboard Monday.
Eireann has now won 3 of 7 starts for earnings of $93,766.
Racing resumes Tuesday with the Welder Stakes.
