PEDIGREE ANALYSIS
By Dan Illman
Sire:
Afleet Alex was an excellent racehorse, winning the Grade 1 Hopeful at 2 before taking both the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes the following season.
At stud, he has given us Afleet Express, the winner of the prestigious Travers Stakes at 1 1/4 miles. Another son, Dublin, won the 2009 renewal of the Hopeful at seven furlongs.
Blessed with speed and staying power, Afleet Alex is a good candidate to produce classic-type performers.
Dam:
The unraced dam is by Unbridled, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic at 1 1/4 miles.
The second dam (by Nureyev), was multiple stakes-placed on grass in Canada. She won twice at 1 1/16 miles, and finished third in the Wonder Where Stakes at 10 furlongs on turf. The third dam was also multiple stakes-placed.
This is the female family of English Derby winner Secreto, top hurdler Istabraq, French Derby winner Caracolero, Santa Anita Derby winner Your Host, and Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Majestic Prince.
Outlook:
A late-running colt, Elite Alex seems to have enough stamina in his pedigree to successfully navigate 10 furlongs.
