OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Excellent Truth, the Grade 1 Diana winner, has been retired from racing after suffering an injury during training, owner John Stewart reported on X.
“I am sad to announce that Excellent Truth has been retired after sustaining an injury during training,” Stewart posted. “After consulting with the best medical professionals in the industry, we believe she has, unfortunately, ran her last race.”
Excellent Truth was pointing to Sunday’s Grade 3 Waya Stakes at Aqueduct but was not entered after trainer Chad Brown did not like the way she was moving this past week. Brown sent Excellent Truth for an exam, where the injuries were detected.
Earlier in the week, Brown said, “I certainly don’t want to make a mistake with her or any of my horses, particularly one that’s been so good to us and already had her Grade 1 this year.”
Brown, who entered two in the Waya, said Excellent Truth was unlucky not to be undefeated this year. She finished second in both the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland and the Grade 1 Just a Game at Saratoga, beaten less than one length in both starts.
Excellent Truth, who began her career in France with trainer Mauricio Delcher-Sanchez, went 5-5-1 from 14 starts with earnings of $677,898.
Stewart wrote that Excellent Truth would join his ever-growing broodmare band.
