G W’s Girl, who has won back-to-back sprint stakes at Oaklawn, is being considered for a start in the Grade 2, $400,000 Beaumont for 3-year-old fillies April 6 at Keeneland, according to her trainer, Greg Compton.
G W’s Girl won the $150,000 Mockingbird at six furlongs Jan. 4. She closed from off the pace and one start later raced with the leaders winning the $150,000 Dixie Belle at the same distance Feb. 24. G W’s Girl was the odds-on favorite and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 84.
“I thought she would be closer [last out],” Compton said. “I didn’t think she would pressing on the outside. When you really looked at the numbers, she was the horse to beat in the race and she showed up and validated the Mockingbird win. I think she could be a serious player later on in some of these bigger 3-year-old sprint races for fillies.
“The Purple Martin [March 22 at Oaklawn] is a race that is under consideration, but I’m probably leaning towards the Beaumont at Keeneland. She’d get a little more distance. I would really like to try her in a big race and see exactly where we’re at against some of the bigger players. It’s a Grade 2, so we’d be going for her first graded stakes win. There’s a lot of appeal there.”
G W’s Girl is a daughter of Munnings owned by Mag Racing. She is 3 for 4, having won her maiden in a turf sprint at Delaware Park.
“She’s a really nice filly,” said Compton.
