He’s Just Lucky is developing into a Louisiana-bred of significance. He won the Louisiana Cup Sprint last month at Louisiana Downs with a meet-high Beyer Speed Figure of 103 and will likely move to two turns for his next start, according to trainer Allen Landry.
Landry said He’s Just Lucky is a candidate for the $100,000 Gold Cup on Oct. 11 at Delta Downs. The seven-furlong race will be run around two turns on the six-furlong oval and it is restricted to horses bred in Louisiana.
“At Delta, with the bullring, I think he can go two turns,” Landry said. “He doesn’t show any signs of stopping in the sprint races. He was just opening up the other day, kept going on and on.”
He’s Just Lucky was a 4 1/2-length winner of the Louisiana Cup Sprint. He covered six furlongs in a sharp 1:09.55. He’s Just Lucky was winning his third straight race in the Louisiana Cup Sprint. During his streak, He’s Just Lucky also won the Louisiana Legends Sprint at Evangeline Downs.

Landry won two other stakes on the Louisiana Cup card. He said Six String, who captured the Filly and Mare Sprint for the second year in a row, also is headed to Delta. However, Landry said her focus this winter could be turf, which would lead to her running some at Fair Grounds.
“She’s going to go to Delta and run at Delta until they have something for her at Fair Grounds. She’ll go back and forth. She’s going to love the grass. She can run on the grass that filly. She ran well on that turf,” Landry said.
Six String is 2 for 3 on turf, with her latest win coming in an allowance in February at Fair Grounds.
Landry’s other winner on the Louisiana Cup card was Two Good Old Guys in the Juvenile. The son of Thousand Words powered home by 5 3/4 lengths for a Beyer Speed Figure of 78. Landry said he is targeting the $100,000 Louisiana Legacy at seven furlongs on Nov. 1 at Delta.
