Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority names four to Horsemen’s Advisory Group

The trainers Shug McGaughey, Dale Romans, and John Sadler have been named to the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority’s Horsemen’s Advisory Group, along with the racing and bloodstock manager Gavin Murphy, HISA announced on Tuesday.

The appointments were made after the expiration of the terms for three members of the advisory group – the retired trainer Rick Schosberg, the trainer Donnie Von Hemel, and the owner Rick Gold – and the death of Frank Jones, a Kentucky horseman and longtime Kentucky Horse Racing Commission member, earlier this year.  The committee has 19 members with rotating terms.

HISA formed the committee last year to address concerns from horsemen that the group was not involving racing constituents closely enough in its rule-making process.

McGaughey, Romans, and Sadler are three of the most prominent Thoroughbred trainers in North America. Murphy, a native of Australia, is the head of SF Bloodstock, which has operations in the U.S., Australia, and Europe.
