Instant Replay has resumed training at his Churchill Downs base following a trip earlier this month to Louisiana Downs, where he won the $250,000 Super Derby.
Instant Replay closed for a head win, and for his effort earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 89. It was his third stakes win this year for the Brad Cox trainee, behind the Bathhouse Row at Oaklawn and the Texas Derby at Lone Star Park. The Super Derby was Sept. 6.
“He’s been in light training,” Cox said last week. “I’m not sure where we’ll land with him moving forward, race-wise.”
Cox liked the effort from Instant Replay in the Super Derby, which was the richest race of the meet at Louisiana Downs.
“He ran well,” Cox said. “There wasn’t a whole lot of pace. He obviously doesn’t have a lot of early speed. He had to race wide around the far turn, so I think we lost a little bit there.
“He showed that he likes to win, and we needed every bit of the mile and an eighth to get it done. I was proud of the effort from him.”
Instant Replay is a son of Maximum Security and is owned by Wathnan Racing.
New standard for Arkansas
Haulin Ice became the all-time richest Arkansas-bred when she won the Grade 3 Princess Rooney on Saturday at Gulfstream Park. The win lifted her earnings to $958,650, surpassing the mark of $846,749 long held by Nodouble.
Haulin Ice has won 10 of 17 career starts, including six stakes.
*** Disco Time earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 102 for his win in the $250,000 St. Louis Derby on Friday at Fairmount Park. He was making his first start since January and is now 4 for 4 for Juddmonte and trainer Brad Cox.
