There is a carryover of $350,907 in the jackpot pick six on Wednesday’s card, which begins the final five-day stand at Churchill Downs for this meet. The nominal feature on the card is a $127,000 sprint allowance for fillies and mares who have never won a race other-than or who have never won twice.
Golden Irish has won back-to-back races for Tom Amoss going seven furlongs at both Churchill and Keeneland, setting brisk fractions and getting away from the field. She could face pace pressure from both Spun Candy and Trust Fund Philly, both coming off layoffs, and both of whom have faced some strong competition.
Speighter Woman could sit just behind the pace. Last time out, she came from fourth to split horses, duel, and kick clear by 1 1/2 lengths. She steps back from that claiming company into an allowance for Michelle Lovell and is looking for her third win of the year.
Irad Ortiz Jr. has the mount on Speighter Woman, while his brother Jose Ortiz gets a leg up on Golden Irish. Irad and Jose Ortiz are first and second, respectively, in the jockey standings coming into the final five days of the meet, with 33 and 29 victories apiece.
Brad Cox, who earned the September meet training title at Churchill, comes in to the final week of racing with a meet-leading 14 wins. Joe Sharp, who took the spring meet title earlier this year, is next with 10 wins. Neither has an entrant in Wednesday’s feature, but both are well represented throughout the week, including in the holiday stakes that highlight the action.
