Jockey C.J. McMahon suffered two fractured ribs in Saturday's spill at Oaklawn.

Jockey C.J. McMahon was transported to a local hospital on Saturday in the aftermath of a spill in Oaklawn Park’s third race, in which two other riders and the three horses involved all appeared to have escaped serious injuries.

McMahon was awake and moving and complaining of back pain, said agent Anthony Martin, who was awaiting further updates. The stewards later received word McMahon had two fractured ribs.

He was unseated when his mount, Knicks Story, fell past the half-mile pole in an $8,000 claiming sprint. Knicks Story got up, ran in the opposite direction on the backside, and was caught by an outrider.

Jockey Hugo Torres was unseated when his mount, Out Run ‘M, fell over Knicks Story. Torres was examined by ontrack paramedics and was cleared to ride, according to the stewards. Out Run ‘M, who remained down temporarily with legs in the air, was found to have had a hind shoe caught under the safety rail, which was moved and he got up, according to the stewards. Out Run’M was vanned back to his barn and was being examined, per the stewards.

Jockey Martin Chuan was thrown from his mount Last Diamond when he stepped on a fallen rival. The stewards said Chuan was examined by ontrack paramedics and cleared to ride. Last Diamond continued on, and ran through the wire.

The stewards said later in the afternoon an official checked on all three horses and each had only superficial injuries.
