Trainer Peter Miller was fined $5,000 earlier this month after reaching a settlement agreement with the California Horse Racing Board for violating a rule stating that trainers must have horses in their custody at the time of an entry.
According to the racing board’s website, Miller entered Hardmoneymuchachos on Oct. 24 to race at Santa Anita on Oct. 27. When a racing board regulatory veterinarian visited Miller’s barn at San Luis Rey Downs to inspect Hardmoneymuchachos on Oct. 26, Miller’s staff said the horse was ill and had been sent to a farm, according to the racing board’s complaint.
The complaint stated that Hardmoneymuchachos was shipped out of San Luis Rey Downs on Oct. 21 by trainer Juan Pablo Silva who entered the gelding to race at Mountaineer Park in West Virginia on Oct. 29.
Hardmoneymuchachos was placed on a veterinarian’s list by a racing board veterinarian on Oct. 27, and was later scratched by the Mountaineer stewards from the Oct. 29 race.
Hardmoneymuchachos, who raced in California for Miller last spring and summer, later won an allowance race at Mountaineer Park on Nov. 25.
