Multiple stakes winner and prominent broodmare Miss Macy Sue died recently, at age 22 at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky, where she was boarded for Albaugh Family Stables. The mare’s legacy lives on through two prominent sons at stud in Kentucky – both of whom are represented on this year’s Kentucky Derby trail.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Miss Macy Sue,” Taylor Made wrote on social media. “We were so honored that Albaugh Stables entrusted us to be her home for so many years, where she lived alongside her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her kind spirit and gentle soul will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”
Florida-bred Miss Macy Sue, by Trippi, was from the extended family of champions Dr. Fager and Ta Wee and burnished her page both on the racetrack and in the breeding shed. As a racemare, she won 11 of 25 starts and earned more than $880,000. After placing in three stakes as a 3-year-old, she blossomed the following year, winning the Grade 3 Winning Colors at Churchill Downs, Prairie Rose and Saylorville at Prairie Meadows, Carousel at Oaklawn, and the inaugural Presque Isle Masters. She then finished third in the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. At age 5, Miss Macy Sue won another edition of the Saylorville and placed in three other stakes.

Moving on to her broodmare career, the mare produced four winners from five starters, all stakes winners. Liam’s Map capped his multiple Grade 1-winning career with a score in the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Not This Time won the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes and was a close second in the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile before injury prematurely ended his career. Miss Macy Sue also produced Grade 2-placed stakes winner Matera and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Taylor S.
Not This Time, standing at Taylor Made Farm, and Liam’s Map, standing at Lane’s End Farm, have both gone on to successful stallion careers. To date, Not This Time, by Giant’s Causeway, is the sire of 47 career stakes winners, led by Eclipse Award champions Epicenter and Up to the Mark and Grade/Group 1 winners Cogburn, Just One Time, Princess Noor, Sacred Wish, and Sibelius. Liam’s Map, by Unbridled’s Song, is represented by 31 career stakes winners, led by Grade 1 winners Basin, Colonel Liam, Juju’s Map, and Wicked Whisper.
Both stallions ranked among the top 25 living American general sires in 2024 and are off to a strong start in 2025. Burnham Square, by Liam’s Map, impressively won the Grade 3 Holy Bull last Saturday at Gulfstream to become a Kentucky Derby hopeful. Meanwhile, Not This Time’s multiple stakes winners already this year include Disco Time, winner of the Grade 3 Lecomte at Fair Grounds.
“She was one incredible mare,” Albaugh Family Stables wrote on social media. “Rest in peace – Your legacy will live on forever.”
