Mister Omaha is scheduled to make his next start in the $250,000 Super Derby on Sept. 6 at Louisiana Downs, according to his trainer, Joe Offolter. Entries for the 1 1/8-mile race will be taken Saturday.
Mister Omaha is one of the top 3-year-olds based at Remington Park. He has been working over the Oklahoma City strip since finishing third to Magnitude in the Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows.
“I thought he ran good last time,” Offolter said. “We just hooked a bear.”
Mister Omaha is a multiple stakes winner who overall has won 5 of 9 starts. Offolter said the timing of the Super Derby was one reason to target the race, which is the first of two fall goals for Mister Omaha.
“It’s 22 days out from the Oklahoma Derby,” Offolter said. “For around this part of the country, it’s a good spot for him. And I like the distance.”
The Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby, also at 1 1/8 miles, is Sept. 28. Mister Omaha is a son of Omaha Beach who races for his breeder, Bryan Hawk.
