Trainer Steve Miyadi will complete a 20-day suspension on Thursday for working a gelding at Del Mar in July a day after the runner was scratched because of illness.
The suspension began on Nov. 22, according to a ruling published on Saturday by Los Alamitos stewards. The suspension was part of an mutual agreement between the California Horse Racing Board and Miyadi, according to the ruling.
Miyadi was cited for working Zimba Warrior on July 31. The preceding day, the gelding was withdrawn from a race on July 31 because of illness, according to a complaint filed on the racing board’s website. The scratch was processed by racing officials on July 30, but was not officially recognized until the following morning, the complaint stated.
Zimba Warrior was placed on a veterinarian’s list because of the illness on July 31, but was given a workout earlier that morning on the day of the intended race.
Miyadi, who has won 32 races this year, has not had a starter since Nov. 16 at Del Mar.
