Troubleshooting got a perfect trip under Edgar Morales and had no trouble winning the $149,500 Dade Park Dash on Friday at Ellis Park.
Troubleshooting broke sharply and for a dozen strides looked like he’d be part of the pace, but Morales eased his mount back off the pace and got to the rail and into the pocket. There, Troubleshooting sat as Star’s Image, hounded by Coming in Hot, raced an opening quarter over a firm turf course in 22.12 seconds.
The field cut the corner and turned for home. Morales came off the fence, gently angled to the outside, and found a huge gap when pace-stalking Hit That Review faded. Troubleshooting burst past the Coming in Hot and Star’s Review at the furlong grounds and had the race well in hand 100 yards before the finish, winning by 2 1/4 lengths.
Bridle a Butterfly, last in the early stages, tried to follow Troubleshooting’s move but couldn’t quicken with the winner, edging Chasing Liberty for second. Troubleshooting was timed in 1:01.34 for 5 1/2 furlongs and paid $6.02 as the favorite. Kale’s Angel and Rolando were scratched for this 3-year-old restricted race.
Greg Foley trains Troubleshooting for the colt’s breeder, Donamire Farm. Troubleshooting is by Not This Time out of Into Trouble, by Into Mischief, and he won for the second time in seven starts. Foley switched Troubleshooting from dirt last year to turf this year, and Troubleshooting has responded with four solid showings.
