Myra's Boy on a roll

Myra’s Boy has won both of his starts at the Louisiana Downs meet and the Beyer Speed Figures he has earned are the top two numbers at the current stand in Bossier City, La.

Myra’s Boy earned a meet-best 91 when taking an off-the-turf race for first-level allowance runners May 27. It was held at one mile and 70 yards. He returned to earn an 88 for a win in a one-mile turf allowance in his last start July 29. The next stop could be a stakes race.

“We are definitely looking at that, but we don’t have a map drawn out yet,” said Al Cates, who trains Myra’s Boy for Daniel Family Farms. “The only thing we know for sure is we’re going to go to Oaklawn.”

Cates said Myra’s Boy is based at Louisiana Downs, and if another race were to come up for him, he could run back at the meet. He also has options around the Midwest.

“We could possibly run up to Remington and we do go to Keeneland sometimes in October,” Cates said. “So we’ve thought about that, but nothing [has been] picked out yet.”

Myra’s Boy, a $35,000 claim on May 3, is a son of Catholic Boy and a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Happy Is a Choice.

“We’re still figuring him out, but we think he’s better on dirt,” Cates said. “I like a flat mile for him. I think a flat mile on the dirt would be great. He’s kind of come on, and we’re going to have to sit down with the owners and come up with a plan. He galloped this morning, looked like he’s come out of the races really good.”
