Jockey Emanuel Nieves hit a milestone of 1,000 career wins on Aug. 26 at Louisiana Downs when he guided Jus Makes Cents to victory in the fifth race, according to Equibase.
Nieves won the first race of his career on May 14, 2012, at Finger Lakes. He’s compiled a career record of 8,177 starts for mount earnings of $19.4 million. His stakes winners include Norah G, Fort Polk, and Cabo’s Rumor.
◗ Evangeline announced Elite Thoroughbred Racing won its third consecutive title at the Opelousas, La., track, which closed its 73-night stand Monday. Timothy Thornton was the leading rider for the fourth time with 96 wins from 385 starts and purse earnings of $2,035,840.
◗ Prairie Meadows has announced changes to upcoming post times to accommodate trials for Quarter Horse stakes. First post Saturday has been moved to 4:30 p.m. Central, while post time for both Sunday and Monday is set for 2:30 p.m.
