OZONE PARK, N.Y. – St. Brigid’s Cross and Pinky Brier have traded decisions the last two times they’ve met. The pair of New York-bred juvenile fillies, who now reside in the same barn, will be rivals once again in Friday’s first-level allowance for statebred 2-year-old fillies that serves as the feature on the eight-race card.
Trainer Brad Cox and owner Sandy Goldfarb claimed Pinky Brier for $50,000 on Oct. 17 and the 2-year-old filly, who won that day by 10 lengths, came back five weeks later to win a starter allowance/optional claimer by one length over St. Brigid’s Cross.
Cox and Goldfarb claimed St. Brigid’s Cross out of that race for $75,000.
The two fillies have similar front-running styles and are drawn side by side in the six-horse field. Pink Brier, with Flavien Prat, has post 5 while St. Brigid’s Cross, with Manny Franco, has post 6.
Lady Rose, conditioned by leading trainer Linda Rice, would be the one to potentially pick up the pieces if a speed duel develops. Lady Rose, a daughter of Upstart, is coming off a 5 3/4-length maiden victory in her second start.
